Two weeks mainly devoted to discussion of Jane Austen’s novels, but also including overnight trips to Bath (The Jane Austen Centre), Chawton cottage, Hampshire (the Jane Austen’s House Museum) and Winchester Cathedral (her burial place.)

If you are a “Janeite” you will agree with this assessment from one of Rudyard Kipling’s characters – and you will have a wonderful time spending two weeks with kindred spirits discussing Jane Austen’s life and works.

Three hours’ tuition a day will adopt a thematic approach, rather than covering the novels one-by-one. Students are expected to have read Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Emma, Persuasion, before they arrive. Further reading material will be provided.

• The role of women

• Love and marriage

• Fashion; dancing, pastimes and games

• Houses

• The clergy

Accommodation

Students stay in Wadham College, one of the most traditional Oxford University colleges. Located right in the centre of city, Wadham is near all the famous colleges and museums, which makes it ideal for an inspiring study break! Excursions – Oxford Based

Excursions - Outside Oxford

Students wishing to travel outside Oxford, can visit places of historic interest, such as London, Hay-on-Wye, Bath and Blenheim Palace. These tours are an additional cost to the standard programme.
