Description

This programme gives the student a chance to see England and Oxford during the Christmas season. With lots of opportunities to take part in carol singing, traditional festive feasts, shopping at Christmas markets, visiting famous houses and palaces, this course really does make a great winter break.

Blenheim Palace – One of Britain’s largest houses built in the first quarter of the 18th century and it exemplifies the English baroque style. The palace is also the birthplace of Winston Churchill. Learn about the rich and varied history of the palace and Winston Churchill’s early years and stroll around the formal gardens and parkland.

Waddesdon Manor - A country house in Buckinghamshire, England built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French château between 1874 and 1889. The house was built for and by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild (1839–1898), a member of the famous banking dynasty, and although it is now owned by the National Trust the Rothschild family still oversee and administer the building. The house has an extensive garden and wine cellar and is set on a hill overlooking the village of Waddesdon.

Lectures – The programme will include some short lectures on interesting and relevant topics.

Carols – Carol services are an important part of the festive season in England. This course will allow you to take part in more than one Carol Service in Oxford and London. Oxford has many chapels and churches and is the perfect location to get into the Christmas spirit.

Food – The best time of year to taste English food is the Festive period. Students will have a chance to feast on a traditional Christmas platter, scour the festive markets for interesting and fresh food and enjoy fine wine throughout their stay.

Shopping - There will be many opportunities for shopping during your stay. London, Oxford and Bicester offer many Christmas markets and great shopping locations such as Harrods, Fortnum and Mason, Bicester Village, the Covered Market and many more.

Colleges, Museums and Gardens – Oxford has many incredible buildings to see and a crisp winter morning can be one of the best times to see all the beauty Oxford has to offer. The many museums, galleries, gardens and colleges make Oxford a wonderful place to be. History is evident at all times and in Oxford you are in a place where history has been made.

Group leaders and Course staff

Our staff are professional, enthusiastic and fun. You will have a Course Director who will look after you during your stay, make sure that you are comfortable and oversee your programme. The Course Director will be assisted by Oxford Royale counsellors.
