Summer Schools in Oxford

Back to topAbout Oxford Royale Academy

Oxford Royale Academy (ORA) is a British company with a real passion for international education. Each year our team works harder to compile stimulating and rewarding programmes for all ages, bringing together outstanding teachers (many of whom teach at Oxford University), energetic counsellors, brilliant guest speakers and professional support staff.

In July and August 2012, ORA welcomed over 1500 students to our summer school programmes, and we expect 2013 to be even bigger. We are anticipating that students from over 93 countries will join us in the historic city of Oxford and we hope you will be one of them! Many of our students come back year after year, either to take a new programme or a different combination of subjects.

ORA’s range of academic, sporting and cultural options is ever increasing and its international reach is broadening. Getting to Oxford has never been easier or more economical with airlines offering great return flights to London from most countries in the world. If you are thinking of joining ORA we have just one piece of advice - do it!

Back to topOur Staff

Teaching Staff

Our teachers come from a variety of different backgrounds, some are teaching or have taught for the University of Oxford and some are well-established local tutors. Our experienced and welcoming faculty offers ORA students a diverse range of teaching specialities and skills. In addition, ORA alumni students have rated the teaching as one of the best aspects of their experiences in Oxford, many reporting a perfect 10. The informal interaction between faculty and students, combined with an international mix of students makes for a truly fascinating learning environment.

Counsellors

Our counsellors are there to ensure students are looked after during their free time and weekends. Students are able to talk informally and frankly with counsellors in order to suggest ideas for activities or to raise concerns. The counsellors also chaperone the students on field trips and weekend tours. Many of the counsellors are undergraduate students at the University of Oxford and they know the city very well. The counsellors make sure students get the most out of their stay with ORA.

Back to topOur Students

Our students attend from all over the world and share in common a thirst for knowledge. See below for more details.

Courses for Young Learners (13-18s)

Our younger students, from schools all over the world, are well motivated academically and are ambitious, creative and hard working. Students usually hold a wide variety of extracurricular interests and skills and are generally rounded individuals who will contribute in more than one area of the programme.

Courses for Adult Learners (18+)

ORA also offers programmes for adult learners. In the past we have welcomed doctors, lawyers, company executives, teachers and people from many other careers - working or retired. Motivation for taking a programme varies; some require a short break to enhance their cultural education, others simply want to relax in the grounds of an Oxford college.

Whatever your personal goals, there will certainly be a programme available that will suit your requirements.

Back to topORA & The University of Oxford

It is important to be clear that Oxford Royale Academy is not part of or otherwise affiliated to the University of Oxford

Students taking our programmes catch a glimpse of what it is like to study at Oxford through immersion in the college environment, taking classes with tutors from the University, interaction with University undergraduate students and generally experiencing the Oxbridge student lifestyle.  However, it should be borne in mind that the programmes we offer are independently run and are not endorsed by the University itself.

Some additional information is below:

  • Our guest speakers often hold a lecturing or tutoring position at the University of Oxford.
  • Our counsellors (who support students during their free time) will often be studying for their undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford.

  • ORA was founded and is run by alumni of the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and London.
  • If students wish to apply for an undergraduate or graduate degree course at any UK university, they will be able to ask one of our staff members to talk through the various options with them and to advise on the application procedure. Our staff will also be able to take students to the University of Oxford Admissions Office to collect the University’s brochures and application materials. Other universities may also be visited, depending on the student's course selection.
  • ORA is registered with the British Government’s Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly the DFES). Note that registration with the DCSF does not imply quality standards.
  • Our head office is located in St. Catherine's College.  This is just for logistical reasons, for the administration, staff recruitment and general supply of summer programmes and does not mean that Oxford Programs Limited and ORA are part of or otherwise affiliated with or operate under the aegis of the University of Oxford.
