On the Consulting Oxford Study Programme course, you will learn what it takes to achieve a successful start to your career in consulting, and analyse the skills necessary to climb the career ladder in a consulting firm. This intensive course is designed to improve your employability, putting you in the strong position you need to be in to secure your first graduate consulting job.

Course Content

On the Consulting course, you will gain an understanding of the variety of different possible job roles open to you in consulting and gain an in-depth appreciation of why companies need consultants. You will explore the nature of the day-to-day work of a consultant. You will learn about the consulting job cycle and effective project management and you will devote a great deal of time to identifying and analysing the key attributes required to succeed as a consultant. You will become thoroughly familiar with the consulting recruitment process, including the likely stages you will have to go through and what employers are looking for in graduate candidates. You will have the chance to practise some challenging sample interview questions and you will ll learn what is expected in your answer when you are asked questions on business cases. You will also learn how to go about finding a job in consulting, and you will receive detailed guidance on how to strengthen your CV and covering letter.

The first weeks of the course will be taken up with studying in an Oxbridge tutorial-style environment. Later in the course, the focus shifts more towards independent study as you research and prepare a substantial piece of work, which could include a case study on how a business could grow internationally or a thesis on the successes and failures of a particular business that interests you.

Example Trip

To consolidate what you learn in the classroom, you will have the opportunity to go on day trips to see consultants at work ‘in the field’. One of the trips you will make will be to the Coca Cola plant in Milton Keynes, where you will have the opportunity to assess the organisation’s marketing and sales strategies and understand the measures Coca Cola takes to improve the productivity of its workforce and processes.
