Getting to and from Oxford is straightforward as the city is well connected to all of the UK’s major airports and to St Pancras International railway station. We know that for a number of our students this is the first time that they will have travelled abroad by themselves, so here at Oxford Royale Academy we have a dedicated airport transfer team to help students make their way to our campuses.

Which Airport?

If you are flying long-haul, London Heathrow is likely to be your destination. As the UK’s busiest airport, hundreds of flights from all over the world arrive at and depart from Heathrow every day. London Gatwick also serves a significant number of long-haul destinations.

For those who are travelling a shorter distance, there are a multitude of options. London Stansted, Luton and Gatwick airports are major bases for airlines such as Easyjet and Ryanair with large European networks.

Birmingham International Airport is also a major European destination, but does offer flights to Dubai, with Emirates, making it possible to connect with destinations throughout the Middle East and beyond. There is a direct train service between Birmingham International Airport and Oxford. Journey time is approximately 1 hour.

ORA Transfers

Oxford Royale Academy is happy to offer an optional airport transfer service.  There are two types of transfer available to students – the ‘Heathrow Coach Transfer’ and the ‘Taxi Transfer’.  All of the information you will need to know about the ORA transfer services can be found below.

Heathrow Coach Transfer

The Heathrow Coach Transfer service operates on arrival and departure days of Sessions 3, 4 and 5, and runs between London Heathrow Airport and all of our Oxford summer centres. Students travelling on the ORA coach will be met in the arrival hall by a summer school representative who will help them with their luggage and show them to the coach. This service is currently unavailable to students registered to attend Session 1 (4th – 17th June), Session 2 (18th June – 1st July) or Session 6 (13th August – 26 August).

Coach transfers can only be booked by students who meet all of the following criteria:

  • They will fly into or out of London Heathrow Airport
  • They are aged 18 or under
  • Their Arrival and Departure flight times fit with the timetables below. All times given are UK time (British Summer Time, GMT+1 hour)

Coaches will leave Heathrow regularly between the Departure times given above.  Please ensure that the student’s flight arrives into Heathrow no later than 1400 to allow adequate time for them to collect their luggage, pass through immigration controls, find the ORA representative and make their way to the ORA coach.

Coaches will depart Oxford regularly between the Departure times given above. Please ensure that the student’s flight departs Heathrow no earlier than 1000 to allow adequate time for the journey and check-in. Students will remain supervised at the airport until 1600, so no student will be able to fly registered as an Unaccompanied Minor beyond this point.

If you are unsure whether your flight times fit with our coach times, please do not hesitate to contact us for advice on admin@oxford-royale.co.uk or by telephone on +44 (0) 845 130 60 21.

Registered Unaccompanied Minors: If the student will be flying as a Registered Unaccompanied Minor, please specify this when booking the airport transfer in the Portal. Please note that students under the age of 18 flying alone are not automatically a Registered Unaccompanied Minor – this is an additional service, usually charged for by the airline. Prior to travel, should the airline requests any personal information about the ORA staff that will be chaperoning UM’s at Heathrow Airport (e.g. passport details, identification numbers, personal phone number),  please be aware that we are unable to provide this due to data protection laws. Instead, we can supply the name and contact details of a relevant person at our Head Offices, until we finalise our staffing for each transfer day (approximately one week before the date of travel).

Luggage and the Heathrow Coach Transfer: Large numbers of students make use of the airport coach transfer service and, in order to ensure that coaches do not exceed legal weight limits, students who wish to use the service are advised that there is a luggage limit of 1 suitcase and 1 item of hand luggage per student.

Accuracy of information: Please ensure, when booking a coach transfer with ORA, that you complete the online booking form in the Portal with all of the required information. We receive a large number of airport coach transfer bookings and, in order to ensure that all students are met or travel to the airport on time, we do need to have accurate flight information. It is also essential to provide a mobile telephone number on which a student may be contacted on arrival and departure days.

Please note: Oxford Royale Academy is only able to offer airport coach transfers to registered students aged 13-18. Parents/legal guardians wishing to accompany students to or from Oxford must either book an ORA Taxi Transfer, or make alternative travel arrangements.

Heathrow Coach Transfer fees: Fees for transfers in 2017 will be available shortly

How to book: To book a Heathrow Coach Transfer, please log in to the student Portal and click on ‘Extras’.

Taxi Transfer

The Taxi Transfer service is very flexible, travelling to and from all major London airports (as well as other destinations) and linking with all of our Oxford summer centres. Taxi transfers can be booked by any student regardless of their flight arrival and departure time, and are available during all five of our two-week summer sessions. For airport taxi transfers, incoming students will be met in the arrival hall by a taxi driver, who will be carrying an ORA sign showing the student’s name. The student will be taken to the taxi and driven straight to their college. When leaving the programme, students are collected from their college and taken to the correct airport terminal with plenty of time to spare.

Chaperones: Please note that students who book taxi transfers will not be met or accompanied by an ORA chaperone. Instead, they will be met by a taxi driver from our carefully selected partners. If you require, or would prefer, the accompaniment of an ORA chaperone, you will need to book the coach transfer to/from Heathrow Airport.

Registered Unaccompanied Minors: If the student will be flying as a Registered Unaccompanied Minor, please specify this when booking the airport transfer in the Portal. Please note that students under the age of 18 flying alone are not automatically a Registered Unaccompanied Minor – this is an additional service charged by the airline. Prior to travel, if the airline requests any personal information about the taxi driver that will be chaperoning UM’s at the airport (e.g. passport details, identification numbers, personal phone number), we are unable to provide this due to data protection laws. Instead, we can supply the name and contact details of a relevant person at our Head Offices, until we finalise our staffing for each transfer day (approximately one week before the date of travel).
