All of our summer courses include lectures given by exciting guest speakers.
At Oxford Royale Academy we offer our students fantastic opportunities to hear talks from guest speakers.
We believe that the chance to talk frankly and openly with leading figures from the worlds of culture, media, sport and academia allows our students to develop both their confidence and their analytical capabilities.
Each of our speakers presents on a topic that they are world experts in before fielding questions from our student audience. We carefully tailor our guest lecture programme to ensure that our students listen to talks that are not only stimulating and informative, but enjoyable too. Our guest lecturers encourage debate and enhance the scholarly atmosphere of all Oxford Royale Academy summer courses.
Many of our guest lectures take place in the University of Oxford’s Examination Schools, where undergraduates receive their lectures. The historic Examination Schools has hosted speakers such as UN Secretaries General Kofi Annan and Ban Ki Moon and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Guest speakers for students aged 16-18 are also part of the ORACLE programme: see here for details.
We host different types of events for different age groups:
Students aged 13-15
We aim to provide our 13-15 year old students with inspirational and motivational speakers from a variety of academic and entrepreneurial backgrounds. Previous talks have covered topics from The Psychology of Dance and Animal Conservation, to record-breaking adventures and the origins of the universe itself.
Our guest speaker events for this age group are held in the grand Town Hall in central Oxford, on the second Sunday of each two-week programme. Sessions are designed to be interactive, with frequent opportunities for students to ask questions and take part in activities.

The Great ORA Debate
2016 witnessed the inaugural Great ORA Debate, held in the iconic Sheldonian Theatre. ORA were proud to welcome former Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti (CBE) to chair a debate on Privacy in the Digital Age. Following Ms Chakrabarti’s opening speech, four ORA students had the chance to present their thoughts on the topic to an audience of over 500 of their fellow-students.
This year we will be holding a Great Debate in each of Sessions 3, 4 and 5, for all of our students aged 16-18 and based in Oxford and Yarnton. This will give even more students the opportunity to take part in debates on important topics. For interested students, who wish to improve their debating abilities, we will be running and series of workshops in the evenings leading up to the big event, giving them an opportunity to hone their skills and put their name forward to represent their campus.
This year’s chairs are yet to be announced, but watch this space for more information soon!
Every year we host Oxford Royale Academy Collaborative Learning Events (ORACLE) for our students aged 16-18. You can read more about these great events here.
