Course Summary

The Global Leadership Programme is designed to provide the young leaders of tomorrow with a summer course consisting of lectures, discussions and workshops that tackle the key issues faced by global leaders today and in the future. The course introduces students to the international community of which all leaders are a part, and the ways in which changing social, political and economic conditions shape the role a leader plays within the context of current affairs.

Students will focus on the study of political theory, philosophy, sociology and contemporary international relations, and will examine the economic context of current affairs. They will think about the challenges faced by today’s leaders, and will examine case studies of contemporary world leaders. Students will be encouraged to consider their own responses to these challenges, and will be asked to apply these ideas in interactive workshops as well as seminar-style discussions. The programme is suitable both for those seeking general exposure to the subjects covered and for those who aim to pursue further education in the field of politics and related subjects.

What to expect from the Global Leadership Programme

This course has clear long-term career benefits to students with leadership ambitions, whether in the fields of business, politics, economics or science, but completing this summer programme will also be an advantage in the short-term. The knowledge and transferable skills acquired during students’ time with us will benefit their school studies, university applications and longer-term job prospects.

Attendance on the Global Leadership Programme will put students in an excellent position for university applications, developing the knowledge and skills that universities value. In addition, the confidence built through attending the Global Leadership Programme will help students feel more comfortable in an interview situation.

Boost your future career

Oxford Royale Academy have carefully designed the Global Leadership Programme with the express intention of helping students take practical steps towards achieving their career ambitions. Attending this course puts the summer holiday to good use, both in growing knowledge of politics and international relations and in developing vital leadership skills.

Debating, analytical skills, intellectual awareness, independent working and teamwork are all important skills required of a modern-day global leader. The situations that global leaders must deal with are frequently complex and they require strong personal skills for understanding the multi-faceted issues affecting them. During their time at Oxford Royale Academy, students will be involved in discussions about a range of issues affecting global politics, and they will get plenty of practice at analysing these issues in order to achieve a deeper understanding of what’s driving them.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will have:

  • Understood the key issues facing global leaders today and in the future
  • Become familiar with the principal theoretical debates underpinning these issues from the perspectives of politics (inclusive of political theory/political philosophy) and global politics (international politics) and political economy
  • Developed and refined their ability to analyse contemporary global issues from various theoretical perspectives and their ability to argue a case confidently and convincingly, as well as advanced their analytical, presentation and debating skills, both written and oral.
  • Examined the economic context of current affairs
  • Studied political theory, philosophy, sociology and contemporary international relations
  • Examined case studies of contemporary world leaders

Useful information for students & parents

Accommodation

Students will be accommodated in comfortable single or twin rooms depending on their allocated college - please contact our registrations team if you would like more information. Twin rooms are strictly between students of the same gender, and males/females are separated by corridoor and/or staircase. Accommodation is the standard accommodation for university undergraduates who study at the university, so students are able to get a flavour for what being an undergraduate at the university might be like. Bathrooms are typically shared between students of the same gender, though in some cases en-suite facilities are available.

Pastoral care & student welfare

The programme is overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who very often are current members of the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge. The Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss university applications. Each campus has members of residential staff who live in the college throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.
