The Film Academy course for ages 16-18 is a two-week extensive HD Digital Video Production course where students learn the whole process of video production from the initial idea through to a final film. The course shows students how to plan, storyboard, script and then shoot and edit a short drama or a documentary. Students gain a sense of independence in producing their own film, and will benefit from the guidance of expert tutors in order to do this.
Shoots take place on location, giving students the opportunity to see numerous beautiful and interesting locations around the city they stay in. Students will use industry-standard HD video equipment, lighting, microphones and monitor.
This course is suitable for beginners, students with limited video experience, or as a progression from the Film Academy for students aged 13-15.
This course teaches specific skills needed to be a director, producer, director of photography or editor. With this knowledge, students let their imagination run wild as they create their own films, identify their strengths and cooperate with their peers to shape their work. Students also have the opportunity to work with actors and industry professionals, allowing them to experience the world of filmmaking first-hand.
From day one, students get to use HD Digital Camcorders. Top-class equipment and practical workshops ensure that students can learn as they work, experimenting with different shots and refining their own videographic style.
By the end of this course, students will have:
The course is taught by established industry professionals with a passion for crafting moving image.
Students will learn the basics of production, including planning, script-writing, development, location finding and storyboarding. Students have the opportunity to use industry-standard HD video equipment, professional microphones and lighting equipment to shoot their production on location. Alongside providing the best environment in which to refine their production skills, this also means that students can explore the beautiful cities they reside in. Once the film is shot, students use the latest Apple Macs and Final Cut Pro to edit their masterpiece. Credits and titles complete the production, before the films are remastered for web release and their own portfolios. Many films are even shown at the Graduation ceremony, proving the strength of the material produced during the course.

Oxford is a city like no other, combining startlingly beautiful architecture with a buzzing, modern city centre, with superb shopping, restaurants, cafés and more. With the colleges of Oxford University at its heart, some almost 800 years old, it is a city steeped in history and academia.
Students on Oxford Royale's Oxford summer courses will have the chance to live, dine and study in this stunning city, exploring all of its major sites and discovering its hidden secrets. Through both organised trips to key landmarks and free time in the evenings, students will become acquainted with all that Oxford has to offer.
As students walk the cobbled streets and gaze up at the spires, gargoyles and honey-coloured stone buildings, they will be walking in the footsteps of some of the most influential figures in history, including prime ministers, presidents, Nobel prize-winning scientists, authors and more.
Students will be accommodated in comfortable single or twin rooms depending on their allocated college - please contact our registrations team if you would like more information. Twin rooms are strictly between students of the same gender, and males/females are separated by corridoor and/or staircase. Accommodation is the standard accommodation for university undergraduates who study at the university, so students are able to get a flavour for what being an undergraduate at the university might be like. Bathrooms are typically shared between students of the same gender, though in some cases en-suite facilities are available.
The programme is overseen by the Programme Director, who implements the day-to-day running of the programme. The Director is assisted by a team of Counsellors who very often are current members of the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge. The Counsellors ensure that students are looked after pastorally, culturally and socially during their programme. Students are able to talk informally and frankly to the Counsellors in order to raise concerns or to discuss university applications. Each campus has members of residential staff who live in the college throughout the programme and are able to assist students at any time of the day or night.
